Rune Lindbaek - Junta Jæger (Repap, 2009)
It’s always nice to get a mix from Rune Lindbæk and this one is as good as ever taking in the brand new, and pretty special mix of Joakim by Todd Terje, an unreleased Idjut Boys mix of Keren Ann’s ‘My Name Is Trouble’, the Toby Tobias mix of Hardway Brothers and some Arthur Russell and Steve Reich. Not to mention his own mix with Øyvind Blikstad turning Madonna into a beach siren. He has a few releases coming soon with Rune Lindbæk feat Kurt Maloo 12″ coming out late May with ace mixes from Cos/Mes, Seahawks and Ray Mang and a solo LP to follow named ‘Krasava’ in July. All to be released on his own Drum Island Records.Back to the mix – 30 minutes as tight as you like.
Stream the mix and download it via Testpressing.org.
Rune Lindbæk was born near the Norwegian/Siberian border and grew up in Tromsø, where electronic music started in Norway. Lindbæk shared the common ground of disco, techno and early rave with his buddy Bjørn Torske and they started releasing records inspired by their ambient house legend neighbour Biosphere.
Rune moved to Oslo in ’96 where he became, alongside Prins Thomas, the resident at the Soda Club – a place that is now officially recognised as the starting point for what became the Norwegian sound.
After a string of releases on genre defining labels such as Paper (Those Norwegians), Azuli (Star City) and R&S/Apollo (Drum Island) he became the bi-monthly resident at London’s Plastic People in ’98.
Into the new millenium and Lindbæk was resident at the packed and famous mid-week piss up that was Klubb Kebabb, held at Oslo’s Head On for 2 1/2 years and voted by Muzik Magazine as one of the all time top10 balearic clubs.
Later, Lindbæk and pal Lindstrøm made the proto space disco classic ‘Alien In My Pocket’, released on New Yorks’s Modal Music – and he started to haunt disco joints abroad as a dj. Twenty two countries later and he is widely recognised for his daring balearic dub disco style – including sparkles of world music and a hint of comedy – packing happy dance floors all over the globe.
Recent years have seen him locked in the basement with the Idjut Boys for long periods resulting in a 12″ for Bear Funk and and the widely acclaimed album ‘Desire Lines’ for Smalltown Supersound as Meanderthals.
Rune’s new solo album ‘Krasava’, will be out, via his own imprint Drum Island Records, later this year and a 12″ with remixes from top dogs Seahawks and Cos/Mes will land in June
