January Tuesday is a brand new project from Charles Webster and L.A
vocalist January Thompson, this is their 1st e.p.
The e.p kicks of with the deep, smooth rumblings of ‘our jewel’, juxtaposing dark atmospherics, bleak beats and filtered guitars (supplied by the one and only Benet Walsh) with pure, sweetly resigned vocals, the result is truly hypnotic..in parts quite reminiscent of Charles’ now classic album ‘born on the 24th of July’. ‘Our Jewel’s’ beauty and quality was immediately recognised by Warner Brothers who picked up the track for inclusion on there new hit t.v show ‘the Secret Circle’
Next is ‘true love’s sake’ with it’s strangely, time signature switching beats and raw sounds it is another deep, moody introspective
beauty of a song, prefect for these dark days. After the original Charles Webster produced mixes we have a stellar set of remixes, kicking of with a balearic beauty by Coyote (Is It Balearic recordings), their ‘Tropical Heat’ mix, glides along, blissfully building for over 6 minutes before they introduce the
vocals over their sneakily edited guitar patterns and dub bass, this mix is set to be a beach/pool side classic.
Last but not least we bam up the tempo a little with Andre Lodemann’s mixes of ‘true love’s sake’, Andre delivers his classic Berlin take on deep, chunky house, using the vocal to full effect over swooping chords and sequences and a killer octave bass line…pure class!…and the whole thing is finished off with a lovely Lodemann instrumental for the vocalphobes out there.

Amongst gigs so far in 2011 in Africa, Finland, Ireland and the U.K, Charles has been very busy in the studio…. Vega records (Anane), Tribe records (D.J Micks feat Robin Latimore), Foliage records (Black Coffee), Atjazz recordings (C-9ine), Strange Feeling (Tracey Thorn) will all soon be releasing new remixes from Charles.
BUT….!
Charles’ main studio focus over the last 6 months has been his own music, he is very close to completing a whole bunch of new music….
The first of these is a new project called January Tuesday, this is a new ‘band’ he has started with L.A vocalist, January Thompson (with a floating collective of guest musicians contributing)..it is diverse, dark and soulful modern ‘pop’ music…tempo’s slowed down, mood turned up, complex, folky, emotive electronic/acoustic songs – rich with atmosphere and the sultry vocals of Ms. Thompson, these tunes are a natural progression from Charles’ classic downtempo cuts on “All Systems Gone” and “Born on The 24th of July”.. stay tuned for the 1st E.P (it features 3 original songs plus radio edits and remixes from Max Essa and Charles Webster himself).
The second project coming this year is a full length album, a collaboration with composer/arranger Peter Wraight (Matthew Herbert Big Band etc…)…this is by far the most ambitious project from Charles for some time…the music is big band jazz with electronic details and rhythms and amazing arrangements – 8 of the pieces feature vocals from French/American vocalist Emilie Chick and Detroit vocalist, Paul Randolph. The project was mainly recorded in London with some of the u.k’s top players – live performances are forthcoming with full big band and high tech projections…stay tuned for full info and sound and video clips very soon.
Thirdly, Charles’ label, Miso, will be releasing a series of collaborations between Charles and some of his favourite vocalists….Diviniti (Women On Wax recs, Detroit), Cathy Batistessa, Emilie Chick, and Shana Halligan (Nouvelle Vague, Bitter Sweet etc..), as well as a load of new instrumental club tracks, including a full length album from Version (his project with Martin ‘Atjazz’ Iveson and vocalist Emilie Chick), their latest single ‘Nothing’ went top 3 in the Traxxsource chart and there is now a very limited 12″ copy of ‘Nothing’ available right now in all good vinyl stores ( distribution through W.A.S)…and there is a remix package of the same single out very soon featuring brand new mixes from Fish Go Deep, Marlon D and Atjazz….later in the year Miso will be releasing it’s first compilation; “Miso Moments Volume 1″…it will feature exclusive new ‘home listening’ style mixes from the miso catalogue and exclusive artwork from illustrator Jon Burgerman.
Later in the year Charles is aiming to finish his new solo album, working on strange new music with Max Essa and will have his first film soundtrack released…he is also producing various projects for other labels..plenty to be getting on with then !
